What is happening

Facebook Save and file download are not the same thing

Facebook’s Save reel or Save video command bookmarks the item so you can view it later inside Facebook. It does not place an MP4 in your device Downloads folder. This page prepares a file only for public media you own or are authorised to copy.

1

Open the individual video

Use the post or Reel itself, not a profile, Page or Watch-feed URL.

2

Copy and analyse the link

The tool checks whether the media is publicly accessible without your Facebook login.

3

Choose a finished file

Compatible MP4 is the recommended starting point. Higher-quality streams may need video and audio merging.

Official option first

Owners have several official Facebook download options

Facebook account owners can export selected information through Accounts Centre, including a chosen date range, format and media quality. Page owners can request a copy of Page information. Facebook also provides direct options for downloading a Reel you shared and an ended Live video you own.

Find the file

Where the download normally goes

Browser and device settings can change the exact folder, but these are the usual locations.

iPhone / iPad

Copy the public video or Reel link. Safari normally saves the finished file to Files → Downloads; compatible MP4 files can be shared into Photos.

Android

Paste the individual public post URL. Chrome usually saves to Downloads, accessible through Files or the device file manager.

Windows

Use the browser Downloads panel after processing. For your own ended Facebook Live, Facebook also provides a direct owner download from the video library.

Mac

Open Finder → Downloads after the browser finishes. Owners of their own Page or profile content should consider Facebook’s official export first.

Troubleshooting

Use the error as a clue

The video only opens when logged in

It is not anonymously public. The service does not import Facebook cookies or accounts.

A Page or group URL was pasted

Open the individual video post or Reel and copy that specific URL.

The Reel is muted or audio is missing

Facebook music licensing, the original post or regional availability may affect the audio stream.

The link is for a live broadcast

Active live streams are not the intended use case. Owners should use Facebook’s official Live tools after the broadcast ends.

Rights check

Publicly viewable does not automatically mean free to copy

Use the tool for media you created, material the rights holder authorised you to save, public-domain content, or another lawful use. A downloaded file does not grant permission to republish, sell or remove attribution.

Facebook questions

Answers before you paste the link

What does “Save video” do on Facebook?

It adds the item to your Saved area for later viewing inside Facebook. It is not the same as downloading an MP4 file.

Can this access videos from private groups?

No. Group-only, friends-only and login-restricted media is not supported.

Can I download my own Facebook Page archive?

Facebook’s official Page and Accounts Centre export tools are better for complete archives.

Can I download my own ended Facebook Live?

Facebook provides a direct owner download for eligible ended Live videos. That should be your first option.
